Frequently Asked Questions

What are your products made of?

GaeaStar cups are made out of clay, water and salt. To be specific, our clay & glaze are composed of naturally occurring minerals including silica, quartz, mica, kaolin, and other minerals.

How are they manufactured?

GaeaStar’s manufacturing technology leverages both elements of traditional ceramic processing and modern additive techniques to create our vessels - We create the entire surface of the vessel all at once via our surface printing technology, forming the product shape in seconds. With the shape fully formed, the product follows our innovative and connected finishing processes which are akin to that of traditional ceramics including glaze application and firing.

Can they be reused? How long will they last?

Yes! We want to make single use history and embrace circularity. Reuse our cups as many times as you can for drinks, food or they also make great homes for plants or candles. They only stop working when broken by the user.

How do I throw them away when I’m done?

First, embrace circularity and reuse your containers! Think creatively about how your container could be given a second life! If you do choose to discard it, you can put them in the regular trash. Once they’re disposed of, they disintegrate into fragments and dust by mechanical force. Earth going back to Earth.

Are GaeaStar's products a more sustainable choice?

Yes! In the following ways:

Health - our products are 100% plastic-free so no microplastics, plasticizers, emulsifiers or any other toxin.

Environment - Our proprietary manufacturing process has a similar carbon footprint to existing paper+plastic packaging for single-use. We achieve this by drastically reducing the mass of production parts, where we enable low energy ceramic manufacturing, and combine it with localized production, supply chains and the use of renewable energy. Oh and by the way, following the principles of circularity, our products are designed to be used multiple times, so the impact gets even less the more times the product is used.

Do you have a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)?

We have conducted a preliminary LCA with a professional independent third-party to review and guide our fundamental technology development. As our production technology matures, we’ll be pursuing further studies that will be published publicly. In our research to-date, we have learned that:

Our ceramic is fundamentally a better material choice for end-of-life effects (it’s inert!).

Our ultra thin vessels dramatically reduce the impact of the firing process that typically hampers classic ceramic manufacturing.

Our products have similar carbon footprint to paper/plastic single use products.

→ Plus! Our products are reusable!

→ Plus! Our technology is only 2 years old- and we’re just getting started!

Do the cups have a lid?

Yes! We offer a reusable silicone lid for our 10oz, 12oz and 16oz cups. In-line with our ethos of waste reduction & circularity, we recommend you reuse your silicone lid.
